Intermittent Fasting why it can be good for you.
Harvard Medical School in 2018 released its report on intermittent fasting and why it can be good for you. They did a study of fat rats and discovered that by doing intermittent fasting they lost weight, reduced blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugars improved in all rats. However by simply fasting was not the key, it’s about the timing of the fasting which the key to becoming healthier. By looking at the timing of fasting it can be more realistic, sustainable and an effective approach for weight loss, as well as preventing diabetes.
We have heard of the 5:2 diet and this was fasting on 2 days of the week by reducing calories to 600 per day. The problem with this is that your energy levels dip dramatically and you start to feel ill, so it’s not sustainable over a long period of time. Also, it's not showing you a healthy way to eat, so on the 5 days you eat normal, calories were increased as treats.
Intermittent fasting is not a diet and used alongside a healthy eating pattern can show dramatic changes in weight loss.
How does it work? It’s all about the timing with fasting; when we sleep we automatically fast over that 8 hour period of sleep when you eat nothing. By including that time period in a 16 hour plus fast then the fasting period can be sustainable.
Your body starts to burn the fat cells as energy after a 16 hour period of time, rather than be topped up with food, that you are adding to your body fuel. Carbohydrates, white flour, pasta and rice and sugars are quickly broken down by our body and stored in our body cells for energy (sugar). If we don’t use this energy, our body then converts this to fat cells. Sugar can only enter our cells with insulin, a hormone made in the pancreas. Insulin brings the sugar into the fat cells and keeps it there. If we don’t snack between meals our insulin goes down and allows our body to start to burn off the fat.
So how can you change the way you eat?
If you ate your dinner at 6.00 pm and your breakfast at 7.00 am without snacking you would automatically be fasting for a 13 hour period without even trying. So by skipping breakfast and then eating at 12.00 pm a healthy lunch, your body has fasted now for 18 hours. By doing this twice a week, you would allow your body to burn off fat cells and reduce the calories you have taken in as energy.
How can hypnotherapy help you with this fasting technique?
Hypnotherapy is used as a complementary therapy with weight loss by changing thought patterns and behaviours and giving positive suggestions to your subconscious mind. By using hypnotherapy with healthy eating information, fasting and addressing eating problems including emotional eating it can be the tool to finally help you take control of your health and fitness. All the while allowing you to be so much more positive, confident and in control of your health and mind.
